Speaker - Alyssa Fine / Abeille Beaute
Alyssa Fine grew up in a beekeeping family in Monongahela, PA. In high school, she began to use her father’s beeswax and honey to handcraft small batches of lip balms for gifts for friends and family. While those first batches weren’t quite up to par, over the next few years she made adjustments to the recipes through trial and error. Today, she owns and operates Abeille Beauté LLC right here in Pittsburgh, PA. She still uses her father’s beeswax and honey, but she now creates a variety of handcrafted natural cosmetic products, ranging from lotions and lip balms to salves and scrubs, with plenty in between. In addition, Alyssa has had the distinct honor of serving as 2011 Pennsylvania Honey Queen and 2012 American Honey Queen. During her reign, she traveled the country teaching the public about the importance of honeybees and beekeeping. She’s excited to be here at the Pittsburgh Tea Festival today to speak on the topic of Tea and Honey: A Natural Pairing, in which she will discuss varietal honeys, how they’re made, and what makes them unique.
